Enhancing Construction Efficiency
“Imaging In 3D, LLC can meet your needs be it a renovation or a new build with 3D scanning. Matterport 3D digital models are accurate enough to allow material take offs – ideal for renovations. For a remodeler, you end up with a 3D digital image before the project starts, and you can add a finished 3D digital image to a website to show the completed project for promotional purposes. The Matterport 3D digital image can be imputed into Autodesk to create drawings. The 3D digital imaging captures the entire space so all the space can be seen by various contractors. It also eliminates the “damn” statement when you realize you didn’t take a picture or measurement you needed.
For contractors, Matterport has shown there is a 75 percent decrease in in-person site visits, a 30 percent cost and time savings with increased collaboration, and a 70 percent reduction in site survey costs and BIM file creation.
Matterport is excellent for documenting major construction projects, it is also excellent for remodels of both commercial and residential properties. The above image is of a remodeling project. The scanning was done after the architects had measured the area, but they were able to confirm measurements and also have a 3D digital model of the proposed project. Another 3D digital model will be developed at the finish of the project so all will have before and after images.
Several companies have partnered with Matterport to enhance what Matterport can offer. Matterport 3D digital models can now be used to feed into Autodesk to create plans. Matterport can also be used to create Revit files. BIM files can also be created.
A third-party product called Stages can create a history of the construction. After an initial Matterport 3D digital model has been created of a floor at a site, Stages can document the installation of the studs, electrical, mechanical, installation of drywall, HVAC ductwork, and the final view of the facility. The nice feature of Stages is that one can go back and review the construction as it progresses. An additional feature is the ability to view side-by-side views of the same areas during the different stages of the construction.
